Treatment of sore throat during lactation
Most drugs also enter breast milk, but in a concentration range that is significantly below a therapeutic dose for the infant. This means that the drug concentration in breast milk is much lower than in the mother’s bloodstream and is therefore harmless to the infant in most cases. Nevertheless, there are substances that can harm the child.
Caution is therefore required. Long-term medication is particularly problematic, as these can accumulate in an infant and cause symptoms. Basically problematic are the following medications in lactation: cytostatic drugs used in chemotherapy, radionuclides, opioids (pain relievers) and (several combined) psychotropic drugs or antiepileptic drugs.
None of the above-mentioned substances are usually used for the treatment of sore throats. Fever reducers and weaker painkillers such as ibuprofen or paracetamol can be taken without hesitation, especially if they are not used permanently. Well-tried household remedies are recommended, especially in the case of viral pharyngitis (inflammation of the throat). This topic might also be of interest to you: Gargling with sore throat
Homeopathy for sore throats
In addition to the above-mentioned home remedies and “real” medicines, a whole range of homeopathic remedies are also available. Since homeopathy places particular emphasis on an exact medical history (anamnesis), the type of sore throat is decisive for the choice of remedy. It should be noted that the list of the following homeopathic substances is by no means complete, but only a listing of some known and proven remedies for sore throats in the homeopathic field.
Furthermore, one should be aware that the following information is not a substitute for medical advice and that medical advice should be sought in the absence of improvement or high fever. The following substances can also be used: Barium Carbonicum, Mercurius solubilis Hahnemanni, Ferrum Phosphoricum, Marum Verum, Lycopodium, Lachesis, Hepar Sulfuris, Calendula and many more. Of course you can get more information from a homeopath.
