Treatment/Therapy
Pulling in the area of the mother ligaments usually does not require any therapy. If the symptoms occur during pregnancy, it is usually helpful if the woman concerned can lie down in a comfortable position. A hot water bottle on the lower abdomen can also help to alleviate the discomfort.
Usually the pulling then subsides again within a short time. If the pain is very severe, a doctor should be consulted to clarify the cause exactly. In consultation with the doctor, painkillers can then be taken if necessary. The same applies to pulling the ligaments outside of pregnancy, for example during menstruation. The symptoms should be alleviated by simple painkillers and local application of heat.
Is it possible to locate the mother ligaments yourself?
The exact localization of the mother ligaments can be difficult, since the complaints that arise in this area are rather diffuse. As a rule, the pain is described as stabbing and pulls towards the groin and pubic region on both sides. The most appropriate location of the ligaments is therefore slightly inside the groin, towards the midline of the body. However, a very precise localization, which can be determined from the outside, is difficult.
Indications of early pregnancy
Pulling the mother ligaments as an indication of an existing early pregnancy is rather untypical. Although a pulling in the abdomen can occur during early pregnancy, it does not originate in the ligaments, but rather in local processes in the uterus. Thus, period-like pain can occur during the implantation of the egg.
Also, the mucous membrane of the uterus loosens up during early pregnancy and the hormonal change affects the structures of the pelvis, so that abdominal traction can occur in some women. However, at this early stage, the uterine ligaments are not yet subject to any particular traction forces, as the uterus has not yet gained much in size. Accordingly, their ligamentous apparatus is not yet subject to increased strain at this stage.Due to the loosening of the connective tissue and finally also of the maternal ligaments, well-founded complaints can be expected there from the 5th week of pregnancy at the earliest – typically even later.
