Typical abnormal findings
Skin cancer screening serves to identify the three most common skin tumors. A distinction is made between so-called black skin cancer in the form of malignant melanoma and light skin cancer. Basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma belong to this light skin cancer. All three differ in their course, prognosis and further treatment, but can be easily detected in skin cancer screening.
If detected early, they are easy to treat and can often be removed by screening at a time when they have not yet metastasized. In addition, the size of the surgical area is usually much smaller in the case of a tumor detected at an early stage, making the treatment more gentle. Even though skin tumors can often be completely removed and thus healed if detected early, skin cancer should not be taken lightly. Even if it is “only” a skin tumor, this does not say anything about the malignancy of skin tumors, which is in no way inferior to other cancers.
