Urethral Discharge: Test and Diagnosis

Laboratory parameters of the 1st order – obligatory laboratory tests.

  • Urethral smear (urethral swab) for pathogens:
    • Bacteria
    • Sprout fungi
    • Trichomonads
    • If necessary, Mycoplasma, Ureaplasma urealyticum and Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae; if necessary, Chlamydia trachomatis DNA detection (Chlamydia trochmatis-PCR) or Neisseria gonorrhoeae DNA detection (Go-PCR, gonococcal PCR).
  • Phase contrast examination of cervical secretions (for shoot fungi and trichomonads/Trichomonas vaginalis).
  • Urine examination by means of test strips, urine sediment, urine culture,

Laboratory parameters 2nd order – depending on the results of the history, physical examination and mandatory laboratory parameters – for differential diagnostic clarification.

  • Small blood count
  • Inflammatory parameters – CRP (C-reactive protein).
