Venereal diseases caused by other pathogens

Mycoses are generally understood to be diseases caused by fungi. Among the most well-known fungal diseases in the genital area is the vaginal mycosis in women. The main cause of fungi in the genital area in men and women is Candida albicans.

Above all itching and in some cases burning are indications of a possible fungal disease. A crumbly or yellowish discharge can also be an indication. In most cases, fungal diseases in women are caused by too much hygiene.

If you wash yourself too much with pH neutral soaps, the protective vaginal flora can be destroyed. A weakened immune system is also often the trigger. Of course, lack of hygiene can also cause a fungal infection.

And as with previous diseases, unprotected sexual intercourse plays a major role. The pathogens of trichomoniasis are unicellular organisms, in women the Trichomonas vaginalis, which are almost exclusively transmitted through sexual contact. Particularly in men, the disease often proceeds without symptoms.

Some women experience burning and itching, since bacteria are often found in addition to the unicellular organisms. In addition, a foul-smelling, sometimes greenish looking discharge has also been described. Often the urinary tract becomes inflamed and it can even lead to temporary infertility. An antibiotic can also help very quickly and reliably with this disease.

Quick test for venereal diseases

In order to diagnose some of the above mentioned diseases there is the possibility to purchase a variety of rapid tests for home use on the Internet. However, caution is advised when using them. These tests have been evaluated as unreliable by the Robert Koch Institute for Infectious Diseases and their use is not recommended. If a sexually transmitted disease is suspected, a doctor should always be consulted, as only he or she can make a reliable diagnosis and at the same time advise on the disease and therapy.
