Dosage | Fenistil Drops

Dosage

If Fenistil® drops are arranged by a physician, then this explains under normal conditions also the appropriate dosage. Adults usually receive three doses of Fenistil® drops per day. This is 20-40 drops of the solution three times a day.

For people over 65 this dose does not need to be adjusted. Children between one and eight years of age should also take Fenistil® drops three times a day, but at a reduced dosage. This means that 10-15 drops per intake is sufficient.

Children over nine years of age receive 20 drops per dose, also three times daily. If the child forgets to take the dose, do not take double the amount, but continue with the same schedule. Due to the sedative (=sleep-inducing) effect, the schedule must be slightly changed for people who tend to be drowsy.

In this case it may be worthwhile to take Fenistil® drops only in the morning and evening. In this case, unless otherwise specified, 20 drops are taken in the morning and 40 drops in the evening. For more detailed information, please refer to the package insert.

Are Fenistil drops only available on prescription?

Fenistil® drops are available without prescription in Germany. If taken correctly, they are relatively harmless. Even if Fenistil® drops are not subject to prescription, it is still a drug.

This means that taking it needs to be well-considered and can also be associated with adverse effects. In case of overdose a doctor should be consulted. The use of Fenistil® drops should also be discussed with a doctor in case of doubt, especially if other drugs are already being taken.

Price

Fenistil® drops are a relatively inexpensive medicine. Since Fenistil® drops are not only taken for the acute relief of symptoms, but also over a longer period of time, greater costs can still be incurred over time, which is why it is advisable to have these costs covered by health insurance.
