Stem plant

Lemon verbena, a member of the verbenaceae family, is native to South America. It is often confused with true verbena, which grows in Europe. Many “verbena teas” are actually verveine (“fragrant verbena”). The name verveine comes from French, in which the plant is called.

Medicinal drug

The medicinal raw material used is the lemon verbena leaves (Verbenae citriodorae folium), the whole or crushed dried leaves of . The pharmacopoeia requires a minimum content of acteoside and essential oil. The leaves release a lemon-like odor when crushed.

Ingredients

The leaves contain an essential oil whose components include limonene, geranial, and neral.

Effects

Lemon shrub leaves are traditionally believed to have sedative properties.
