What is the prognosis? | The green wood fracture

What is the prognosis?

The prognosis of the infantile greenwood fracture is usually very good. Precisely because the bone is still growing, healing takes much less time than in adults. In most cases, the fracture is healed without consequences after six weeks at the latest. However, more serious fractures, such as those affecting the growth joints, can also have long-term consequences for bone growth. These fractures then require many years of orthopedic therapy and control.

What is the difference to a bead break?

The bead fracture also belongs to the childlike fractures. However, the X-ray does not show a fracture gap, as in the case of the greenwood fracture, but a kind of bone bulge. This is caused by a compression of the bone, such as occurs, for example, when falling onto the outstretched arm.

The bulge fracture also only occurs because of the particular elasticity of the child’s bone. Therapeutically, a bead fracture can almost always be treated with a plaster cast. The prognosis is good. You can read more about bead fracture here: Bead fracture
