Which doctor treats groin diseases?
In case of complaints in the groin area, the family doctor can be consulted first. The family doctor will decide what is the most probable cause and what the further course of the problem will be. In the case of a hernia, surgical treatment in a surgical hospital may be appropriate. Depending on the symptoms, the disease is treated in visceral surgery, urology, gynecology, neurology or orthopedics.
Tap the bar
Strains in the groin can be easily treated with Kinesiology Tapes. These are highly elastic plasters that are glued to the skin from the outside. The plaster is applied along various muscle groups to support them in their work and protect them from overstretching, swelling and inflammation.
The elasticity means that there is no restriction of movement. Every movement gently massages the skin and promotes the flow of lymph and blood. It can also be used to treat strains in the groin or to prevent injuries while exercising.
For this purpose it can be applied along the adductor muscles, from the inner thigh to the inner area of the knee. It should be applied tightly, but without pulling on the leg. Tape can be bought in any pharmacy, but experience is required to apply it correctly.
Stretching exercises for the groin
The groin region should be stretched, especially before engaging in high-risk sports such as soccer, hurdle running or skiing, to prevent strain. If the sport takes place in a particularly cold environment, the risk of strains is particularly high. The most important preventive measures are therefore sufficient warm-up training including stretching of the leg muscles.
The adductor group is stretched by standing with one leg apart and alternately kneeling with one leg until there is a pull in the middle thigh. You should take enough time to stretch slowly and sufficiently. Fast, over-zealous movements to provoke a strong stretching pain should be avoided.Another stretching exercise is to bend one leg backwards while standing freely and pull on the bent foot with the hand.
This should cause a slight stretching pain at the front of the thigh. If you are doing sports that require other muscle groups, these muscles should also be pre-stretched so that sudden movements do not pull or tear.
