1st order laboratory parameters – obligatory laboratory tests.
- Microscopic examination of secretion samples
- Serological examinations
Serological tests used in the diagnosis of syphilis include the following procedures.
- VDRL microflocculation reaction (antibody screening test).
- TPHA test (Treponema pallidum hemagglutination test; antibody screening test).
- FTA-Abs test (fluorescent treponema antibody absorbance test; antibody screening test).
- 195-FTA-IgM test (same as FTA-Abs test, only specific for fresh infections).
- TPI test (Treponema pallidum immobilization test or Nelson test; no longer performed as standard).
Laboratory parameters 2nd order – depending on the results of the history, physical examination, etc. – for differential diagnostic clarification.

- Parasites
Fungi: Candida albicans and other Candida species genital smear – pathogen and resistance); Trichomonas vaginalis (trichomoniasis, colpitis) – antigen detection.
