Facial Toner

Facial toners are suitable for post-cleansing, toning and refreshing the skin.

The main ingredients of these cleansing waters are distilled water, 20-50% alcohol (ethanol or isopropanol) and possibly also cooling substances such as menthol or camphor. Other ingredients may include hamamelis extract (plant extract from witch hazel), alum (potassium aluminum sulfate) or acids. To restore the skin‘s own pH level after a skin wash, facial toners are set to pH (4-5.5) acidic.

Facial toners should be used at the end of each cleansing session. Any residues of cleansing products are removed with it. At the same time, the pores are opened and the skin is optimally prepared for the subsequently applied cream or lotion.

Which facial toner for which skin type?

For dry and sensitive skin, an alcohol-free, moisturizing and soothing toner is recommended. Facial toners that normalize the pH of the skin are particularly suitable. Oily skin and combination skin require an alcohol-containing toner that normalizes sebum secretion and refines the skin’s appearance. There are special facial toners with powder, which absorbs excess sebum and provides a clear and matte appearance of the skin.
