Can a gynecomastia be trained away?

A fake pseudogynecomastia, which is caused by too much fatty tissue in the breast, can be reduced by exercise. If there is no improvement despite weight reduction and training, then it is a real gynecomastia with enlarged glandular tissue. Sport and physical activity will not help in this case, as excess breast gland tissue cannot be trained away.

A surgical procedure to reduce the breast is then the only possibility to remove the annoying male breast. To reduce pseudogynecomastia, the body fat percentage must be reduced. This works best through endurance sports and fitness training such as running and swimming alternating with muscle training.

Men who are overweight and have enlarged breasts are best advised to go to a gym where their body status can be assessed and an individual training plan drawn up. In order to get a nice flat male breast, first try to reduce the body fat percentage and then build up the pectoral muscle (M. pectoralis major and M. pectoralis minor) specifically through weight training. Paradoxically, not only overweight men but also well-trained athletes can have an enlarged mammary gland.

Strength training in combination with the intake of steroids and anabolic steroids changes the hormone level in the body and stimulates breast growth. If you stop taking the medication, the enlarged breast may eventually recede. Therefore the intake of such preparations should be avoided during weight training.

What is the difference to lipomasty?

In a so-called lipomasty, too much fatty tissue leads to an enlargement of the male breast. Lipomasty often occurs especially in overweight men with an increased body fat percentage. This is a fake or pseudogynecomastia, as the enlargement of the breast is only caused by fat storage and not by a pathological increase in breast gland tissue.A mixed form between lipomasty and gynecomasty is also possible, the lipogynecomasty. Lipomasty can be treated by reducing the body fat percentage or in severe cases by liposuction.
