Active ingredient

Ebenol® contains hydocortisone as the active ingredient. It is a hormone that is also produced naturally by the body (in the cortex of the adrenal glands). The hydrocortisone contained in Ebenol® is produced synthetically and, when applied externally to the skin, has an anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic effect, since it slows down the reaction of the body’s own defense system, among other things.

As a result, complaints such as swelling, itching, redness and overheating are reduced. Since the active ingredient is applied directly to the skin, the effect is only felt there and, if used correctly, there are no side effects to fear as with cortisone treatment, for example with tablets. The active ingredient of Ebenol® is hydrocortisone, which is often referred to as cortisone in common parlance (strictly speaking, these are two forms of the hormone that differ somewhat chemically).

Ebenol® therefore always contains (hydro)cortisone. The various Ebenol creams on offer differ only in the concentration of the active ingredient. The weaker form contains 0.25% and the stronger 0.5%.

Dosage

Ebenol® is available in ointments with a dosage of the active ingredient hydrocortisone of 0.25% and 0.5%. The spray also contains 0.5% active ingredient. Initially, it can be used once or twice a day. In the course of time, Ebenol® should only be used once a day. It is applied thinly to the previously cleansed skin and lightly rubbed in.The duration of use should not exceed three weeks.

Price

The price of Ebenol® depends on the package size and the concentration of the active ingredient. It is approximately between 5 and 12€. In Internet pharmacies, the drugs are often available at a lower price, but at the expense of a lack of advice from a pharmacist.

You do not need a prescription to purchase Ebenol®. However, it is a drug that has to be purchased in a pharmacy. Therefore, even if a visit to a doctor is not necessary to obtain Ebenol®, in case of doubt, the advice of a doctor should be sought first. Especially in the case of unclear skin diseases or if there is no experience with the use of Ebenol®, a doctor should be consulted first for safety reasons.
