Advanced training

During the training as an occupational therapist, you will gain insights into every field in which occupational therapists can work. As a rule, the occupational therapist selects a specialist area in which he would like to work after his training. In order to achieve a high level of expert knowledge in this area, occupational therapists take part in numerous further training courses.

Since 2007, all established occupational therapists as well as the professional management of approved institutions or branch offices have been obliged to undergo further training. There is a point system, according to which each therapist must collect 60 points within four years, whereby one point corresponds to a 45-minute teaching unit. Many training courses take place at the weekend, but there are also some during the week.

They are offered by private institutions or by schools, which all publish their offers on the Internet. Whether the costs are borne by the employer varies from person to person. Often, however, they have to be paid by the therapist himself.

The costs range from about 150 to 500 Euros, depending on how long the training takes and how extensive it is. There are always new advanced training courses in the field of neurology (for example: Bobath, Perfetti etc. ), because a lot of science is done there and new knowledge is gained again and again. In addition, orthopaedics also offers a wide range of further education. A new field for further education is the area of relaxation techniques and mindfulness training, which can be carried out with almost any clientele and is often used in psychiatry
