Structure and properties
Amsacrine (C21H19N3O3S, Mr = 393.5 g/mol) is an aminoacridine derivative.
Effects
Amsacrine (ATC L01XX01) has antineoplastic properties. The effects are due to inhibition of topoisomerase II. As a result, DNA synthesis is blocked.
Indications
For the treatment of acute myeloid and acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
Dosage
According to the SmPC. The drug is administered as an intravenous infusion.
Contraindications

- Severe bone marrow suppression
- Pregnancy and lactation

Adverse effects
The most common possible adverse effects include hair loss, purpura, fever, phlebitis, low blood pressure, bone marrow suppression, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, oral mucositis, and esophagitis.
