Application in the nursing period
It has been shown that a certain amount of the active ingredient acyclovir contained in Zovirax® is transferred into breast milk. As a result, it can also be transferred to the newborn during breastfeeding. The child should not take any antivirals, as this can lead to intolerance reactions, stomach and intestinal complaints and other complications.
If administration of Zovirax® is necessary despite breastfeeding, the mother has the option of discontinuing breastfeeding or taking a break from breastfeeding. In this way she does not endanger her child.
