Bitter Clover: Dosage

Bitter clover can be ingested in the form of tea – the leaves are contained in a concentration of up to 3 g/100 g in tea mixtures of the gastrointestinal tea group. Furthermore, feverfew clover leaves are offered in the form of drops, capsules, dragées or other forms of preparation.

The average daily dose, unless otherwise prescribed, is 1.5-3 g of the drug.

Preparation of bitter clover

To prepare a tea from feverfew clover, 0.5-1 g of the finely chopped leaves (1 teaspoon is about 0.9 g) is poured over boiling water and after 5-10 minutes passed through a tea strainer. It is also possible to prepare it with cold water and then boil it briefly.

Cold preparations are usually more effective, since the bitter substances they contain are relatively sensitive to temperature.

Throughout the day, a cup of the unsweetened tea should be drunk half an hour before each meal.

What should be taken into account?

In order for the reflex effect via the taste buds in the mouth to develop fully, the tea should be left in the mouth for a short time in each case when taken before meals and only then swallowed.

The leaves should be stored dry and protected from light.

Bitter clover: when not to use?

Bitter clover preparations should not be taken in cases of known ulcers of the stomach or duodenum, as these conditions may be aggravated by the stimulation of stomach acid production.
