Bleaching skin against scars

In our society, scars are often considered a cosmetic blemish and can therefore become unpleasant for the person concerned quite quickly. Fresh scars in particular are still comparatively heavily infused with blood vessels and therefore often darker than the surrounding intact skin. However, contrary to widespread opinion, scars are not static or even “dead” tissue, so this will change in the course of the following months to years.

Scars, like most other tissues, are subject to a constant process of remodelling, which is known as “scar maturation”. More precisely, over time, collagen fibres multiply, causing the scar to shrink. At the same time, the density of blood vessels in the scar tissue gradually decreases, so the scar becomes lighter.

Nevertheless, it is possible to artificially lighten scars. In general, all bleaching creams and household remedies that are also used for lightening pigment spots can be used for this purpose. On the one hand there are creams containing active agents like hydroquinone, kojic acid and rocinol. On the other hand there are typical household remedies like citric acid and vinegar, buttermilk, coconut milk, potatoes or cucumber pastes.
