Bleeding gums and bad breath

Gingivitis is mostly caused by bacteria or other pathogens (e.g. fungi) and is considered the main cause of gum bleeding. Due to the high pathogen load and the release of special inflammation factors, many affected persons suffer additionally from strong bad breath. To stop bad breath, it is therefore important to contain the inflammatory processes in the oral cavity.

The most important measure is therefore regular and adequately performed oral hygiene, which is not only dependent on frequency but above all on care. Teeth should be cleaned before bed, after breakfast and after lunch. In the morning and at lunchtime, simple tooth brushing is usually considered sufficient, but in the evening, much more time should be invested in oral hygiene. The use of dental floss and/or interdental space brushes (interdental space brushes) as well as mouth rinsing solutions are used for complete cleaning.

Leukemia and bleeding gums

Leukemia is a disease of the blood-forming system. An uncontrolled proliferation of white blood cells displaces the formation of red blood cells, which are essential for survival. This imbalance leads above all to typical symptoms such as bleeding into the skin and frequent haematomas (bruises). But bleeding of the gums is also part of it. However, one should only worry if several typical symptoms occur suddenly at the same time. Since bleeding gums are usually rather harmless, one should not worry as long as it occurs alone.

Prognosis for bleeding gums

If the gum inflammation and the disease of the periodontium are treated correctly by the dentist, the prognosis is very good. However, it is important that the patient avoids a recurrence of gum bleeding by careful oral hygiene. For the other diseases, the prognosis depends on the treatability of the underlying diseases.

How can gum bleeding be prevented?

The removal of bacterial plaque through the use of toothbrush and toothpaste, as well as floss and toothpaste for the interdental spaces is the safest prophylaxis of gum bleeding, since the removal of plaque removes the basis for inflammation of the gums. Regular visits to the dentist for a check-up have a supportive effect.
