Care

The port needle must be changed regularly every 7 days. During this process, the needle must be rinsed again and the puncture site thoroughly disinfected. The dressing should also be changed regularly and the puncture site checked to exclude possible infections.

This should be done every 2-3 days. It is also important to flush the port regularly, especially between the administration of different drugs, after transfusions (blood) and nutritional infusions. Even a port that is currently not being used should be flushed every four weeks to avoid clogging the port.
