Causes of fever and diarrhoea
Febrile diarrheal diseases are usually caused by infections. Causes of the complaints are often bacteria or viruses, rarely parasites. Mostly bacteria are responsible for the complaints.
Salmonella is transmitted, for example, via poultry meat and eggs. They cause watery diarrhoea and fever. When infected with shigella, the diarrhoea is often bloody and associated with abdominal cramps.
Viral infections are caused by rotaviruses and noroviruses, for example. Rotaviruses are transmitted via drinking water and from person to person. Infants and small children are particularly at risk.
The norovirus is highly infectious and causes fever, watery diarrhea, nausea and vomiting. Rarely parasites are responsible for the infection. Amoebae lead to bloody-greenish jelly-like diarrhea and are often associated with long distance travel.
Lamblia occur in warm countries and cause fever and watery diarrhea. The norovirus is a highly contagious, treacherous virus that causes diarrhoea, especially in winter. A norovirus infection can cause severe fever.
Nevertheless, the symptoms often end within 48 hours. are dangerous for infants and small children. Those affected suffer from fever, diarrhoea and vomiting.
Proper hygiene can help reduce infections. Salmonellae are bacteria that are often ingested with food. They multiply better the warmer it is.
After hours to a few days they cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and sometimes fever. Besides Salmonella, Campylobacter are the most common cause of diarrhoea and fever, especially in the summer months. Unlike Salmonella, these bacteria do not multiply in food, but they are often ingested through food such as poultry.
Infection causes severe diarrhea, fever, joint and muscle pain. In addition, the bacterium Clostridium difficile is a resistant intestinal germ, which often becomes noticeable after taking antibiotics. An infection with Clostridium difficile causes nausea, fever and diarrhea.
Food poisoning is often caused by certain types of bacteria. Salmonellosis is caused by salmonella and leads to diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting and fever. Fever and vomiting can also be symptoms of food poisoning caused by Listeria. This is known as listeriosis.If the bacteria spread to organ systems or even the meninges is dangerous and should be treated. Food poisoning with diarrhea and fever can also be caused by various other bacteria, for example Campylobacter, Yersinia and Shigella.
