Chewing Fingernails

Regular fingernail biting is a visible sign of a psychologically stressful situation and occurs more frequently in children and adolescents. If the fingernails are chewed down to the nail bed, it is a kind of self-injury and must be examined more closely by a psychologist, as it is a sign of an unprocessed, mostly early childhood trauma.
