Costs of a rhinoplasty

How much does a rhinoplasty cost?

A rhinoplasty is an extensive and time-consuming surgical procedure that requires special skills of the plastic surgeon. However, not only the performance of the actual operation, but above all the consultation and aftercare appointments must be carried out conscientiously and with a great deal of time spent by the doctor. It is therefore self-evident why the costs of a nose correction are usually very high.

At a time when both women and men are attaching more and more importance to appearance, many people wish to have their deformed nose corrected. Although an unattractive or particularly large nose very often leads to feelings of inferiority or deep-seated psychological problems, most health insurance companies (both statutory and private) vehemently refuse to cover the costs of a nose correction. It is extremely difficult to prove such a psychological disorder caused by the appearance of the nose.

The “battle” with the health insurance company is grueling and usually has little chance of success. A nose correction therefore remains a purely aesthetic, medically unnecessary treatment that the patient must finance himself/herself. Nevertheless, it makes sense to consult a specialist for ear, nose and throat medicine in addition to the plastic surgeon.

There is a simple reason for this, because many people suffer from a curvature of the nasal septum, the correction of this can be carried out together with rhinoplasty, and in such cases the health insurance company will cover at least part of the costs incurred. The main part of the costs of a rhinoplasty is not always the surgery itself, but often the pre- and post-operative care, the stay at the clinic and the general anesthesia. On average, the costs of the consultation appointments amount to about 50 Euros.

However, many plastic surgeons deduct this amount from the surgery costs again when concluding a treatment contract, so that the patient who decides to have a nose correction does not incur any costs for the consultation appointment itself in the end. The price of the actual operation, including all follow-up appointments, currently varies in Germany between 2000 – 8000 Euros, depending on how “in demand” the surgeon is and how extensive the nose correction is. In addition, one can expect to pay about 1500 – 2000 Euro for the general anesthesia and about 100 – 230 Euro for the subsequent stay in the clinic.
