Costs of an IPL treatment | Permanent hair removal with IPL – You should pay attention to this!

Costs of an IPL treatment

Basically, permanent hair removal is not cheap, but it is especially worthwhile for many women. The IPL treatment is a favourable option compared to the alternative laser treatment. The costs depend on several factors.

The treatment is usually more expensive for doctors than for cosmeticians. Another point is the size of the area to be treated. The larger the area, the more expensive the price.

However, there are often packages of offers which you should inform yourself about in advance. Another decisive point is the number of sessions. If you need more sessions, you will of course pay more.

You should expect to pay between 30 and 400 euros per session. By the time the treatment is completed, this can add up to 300 to 2500 Euros. The health insurance does not cover the costs of permanent hair removal.

The IPL device can also be purchased for home use. However, the device differs from the device used by doctors and cosmeticians in that it has a lower light output. This is also important to prevent burns when using the device yourself. A major disadvantage, however, is that due to the lower intensity of the light waves, the treatment is less effective and takes much more time. The IPL treatment at home is with 300 – 1000 Euro not cheap, but cheaper than the treatment at doctors or cosmeticians.

Is it possible to do an IPL during pregnancy?

So far there are no studies dealing with this question. There is also no evidence why IPL treatment could harm the unborn child, as the light waves are superficial and only reach the hair root. Nevertheless, experts advise against starting or continuing treatment during pregnancy. This is because the child can already perceive light in the womb. It could therefore possibly disturb the unborn child’s vision.

Alternatives to IPL treatment

Laser treatment is a promising alternative to IPL treatment. The main difference between both variants is that laser treatment works with only one wavelength. With IPL, the wavelength varies in a wide spectrum.

The laser treatment enables a targeted sclerotherapy of the hair roots. The rays penetrate deeper into the skin and are only absorbed by the hair. With IPL, however, the light is also distributed to the surrounding skin.

With laser treatment, complete hair freedom can be achieved in just a few sessions, but the sessions are also much more expensive. For a full body treatment you have to calculate with 2500 to 3500 Euro. Moreover, laser treatment can only be carried out by doctors or excellent cosmeticians.

The long-term prospects are better than with an IPL. The risk of hair growth returning after completion of the treatment is lower. SHR stands for Super Hair Removal and is a light-based alternative to IPL treatment.

In contrast to IPL and laser treatment, this method is not only based on the pigmentation of the hair – i.e. not only on melanin. The aim of the SHR technology is also the stem cells that feed the hair follicles. These are also destroyed during the treatment, so that the hair no longer has a nutritional basis and can therefore no longer grow back. The SHR method can therefore also be applied to lighter hair.
