Cycling: Healthy Leisure Fun

Modern bicycles are real high-tech devices. And many therefore believe that pedaling is only for sportsmen. However, cycling is not only a sport, but also a great leisure fun for everyone. Sports physicians say that hardly any other sport that is easy on the joints improves fitness as effectively as cycling: Already who is on the road twice a week, provides an effective cardiovascular workout and reduces excess weight.

Cycling: Healthy for heart and circulation

Sports physicians, say that hardly any other joint-friendly sport improves fitness as effectively as cycling. And it does so without particularly great effort. Even those who bike for thirty minutes twice a week train the heart and circulation, reduce excess weight and provide mental relaxation. The great thing about it is that even people who otherwise live by the motto “No Sports” can have fun doing something for their health. And you don’t need an expensive luxury bike to do it. In principle, even the good old Holland bike is suitable.

But if you want to go for a bike ride on the weekend, you’d better go for a trekking bike. The advantage here is that trekking bikes are real all-rounders that are ideally suited for the road, but can also take a detour along a forest path. At the same time, their weight is relatively low and the gears, which usually come as standard, allow the rider to overcome inclines with ease. However, a few things should always be taken into account when cycling. Even if the wire bike is mounted only for fun.

Comfortable clothing and sturdy shoes

For example, clothing is important. Professionals are in jersey and cycling shorts made of the latest materials on the road. Those who only enjoy the fun on two wheels from time to time do not really need such things. However, the clothing must be breathable and comfortable. And when it comes to shoes, attention should be paid to a firm grip. Heels and mules are taboo. This is important for safety and ensures full power transmission to the pedals. Ideal are, for example, sneakers.

The most comfortable way to cycle is upright

On the bike itself, the saddle and handlebars in particular must be properly adjusted. The best position for comfortable cycling is an upright sitting position. The handlebars must be adjusted so that the arms do not have to be fully stretched out to hold them. The saddle has the optimum position when at least one foot can be placed on the ground while sitting.

For this, of course, the technique must be right. Before pedaling, it is therefore important to check the tire pressure. After all, slack tires make pedaling more difficult and are more susceptible to punctures. You also need to check the brakes and make sure all the screws are still tight. And then you’re ready to go. But always go slowly.

The muscles need the first five to ten minutes to warm up. You shouldn’t start pedaling wildly right away, otherwise you could pull a muscle and the fun will end before it really begins. On longer rides, don’t forget to drink. Professional cyclists prefer apple spritzer. It not only quenches thirst, but also balances the mineral budget. And for a little snack in between, she recommends always carrying a muesli bar.
