Cystitis in the nursing period- What to do?

A bladder infection or, more appropriately, a urinary tract infection occurs frequently in women. A woman can also fall ill while breastfeeding. It causes pain when passing water and an increased urge to urinate.

It is especially important to drink a lot and empty the bladder frequently. Possibly urine and bladder teas can help with this. Keep warm to prevent hypothermia.

It is often necessary to treat the bacterial infection with an antibiotic. To do this, consult your doctor, who will prescribe you an antibiotic that is approved for use in lactation. Penicillins in particular are considered the antibiotic of choice for lactation. If the pain increases and turns into a flank pain, you are suspected of having inflammation of the renal pelvis and should be treated immediately.
