Dermatop® Basic Ointment

Dermatop® Basic Ointment is a product of the Sanofi company, which can be used for the care of stressed skin as well as for the prevention of overstrain of the skin. The Dermatop® Base Ointment does not contain the same active ingredient as the Dermatop® cream, contrary to what the name might suggest. According to the Sanofi website, the base ointment contains glycerol monooleate as the “active ingredient”.

However, it is open to discussion whether glycerol monooleate can be classified as an active agent at all, as the substance which belongs to the chemical group of lipids and is mentioned in various other skin creams (e.g. Bepanthen) only as “other ingredient” besides the actual active agents. The purpose of this “active agent” and thus also of the base ointment itself is therefore the refattening of the skin so that it remains supple and can continue to fulfill its tasks. Dermatop® base cream should be applied to stressed skin areas two to three times a day. However, the ointment is not suitable for the treatment of skin diseases, wounds or inflammations.

Dermatop® Base Cream

The Dermatop® base cream is also a skin care cream from Sanofi. As with the base ointment, it does not contain any active ingredient from the cortisone family. The company Sanofi states myristyl alcohol (1-tetradecanol) as active agent on their website, but here too it can be discussed whether this substance from the group of fatty alcohols which is only added as additive in many other cosmetics can really be considered as active agent.

Dermatop® Base Cream is used for the same indications of use as Dermatop® Base Ointment also: To prevent overstrain of the skin as well as to restore the skin to its original state in case of already existing overstrain (as for example by cleaning agents or too strong sun radiation). In addition, the manufacturer recommends that the cream be used after treatment with creams containing cortisone, such as Dermatop® cream, to restore the healthy skin barrier and function. Dermatop® base cream is also recommended to be applied two to three times a day.

Dermatop® Solution

Dermatop® solution is a product of the company Sanofi with the same active ingredient as Dermatop® cream, namely prednicarbate, a modified adrenal hormone. This active ingredient has the ability to suppress the body’s immune reactions and thus helps against excessive body reactions such as inflammation and allergies. Similar to Dermatop® cream, Dermatop® solution is used for allergic skin reactions and inflammatory skin diseases such as neurodermatitis or psoriasis. However, unlike Dermatop® cream, Dermatop® Solution is especially suitable for use on hairy areas of the body where a cream is difficult to apply. Unless otherwise prescribed by a doctor, the usual dosage is to apply the solution as sparingly as possible to the affected areas once a day.
