Diagnosis | Dizziness and circulation

Diagnosis

If circulation problems persist for a long time, a doctor should be consulted to determine the exact cause. An exact anamnesis will be taken to determine when the symptoms occur, whether there are possible triggers, underlying diseases and which medications are being taken. Furthermore, vital parameters such as blood pressure and pulse are measured and the “Schellong test” is carried out. In this test, blood pressure and pulse are measured first while lying down and then shortly after getting up. For further clarification, long-term blood pressure measurements can also be taken, ECG, exercise ECG and long-term ECG can be written and blood values can be checked.or Schellong Test – An examination of the circulation function

Dizziness and circulation problems during pregnancy

Dizziness and circulatory problems during pregnancy are very common and are usually no cause for concern. The hormones released during pregnancy often cause the blood vessels to dilate, so that the blood often sinks into the legs when you get up and your blood pressure is lowered. In the late course of pregnancy, “vena cava syndrome” can occur.

In this syndrome, the baby pushes the mother’s great vena cava with its weight and this results in a slowed blood return, which can cause circulatory problems for the mother in the form of dizziness, shortness of breath, palpitations and nausea (especially in the supine position). In rare cases, the vena cava syndrome can lead to the mother’s unconsciousness. The kinking of the vena cava can also lead to reduced blood circulation in the unborn child and, in extreme cases, can lead to premature birth.

In order to prevent this, it is advisable to lie and sleep mainly on the left side in the last weeks of pregnancy and to consult a doctor if the symptoms persist for a long time. What generally helps against circulatory problems and dizziness is – getting up slowly in the morning, drinking enough (at least 2 liters a day), eating several small meals spread over the day to keep the blood sugar level constant, getting enough exercise in the fresh air without overexerting yourself, and avoiding standing for long periods. Do you feel dizzy in the morning?

If circulation problems are acute, it helps to sit down, drink something or lie on your left side and keep your legs high. Most circulation problems are normal and not dangerous. However, if you suffer from dizziness, vision problems, headaches or palpitations over a long period of time, it is always advisable to consult a doctor or inform the midwife so that an underlying disease can be ruled out quickly.
