Duration and prognosis

The duration of the pain depends on the underlying disease. If the cause is an infection, it can take from a few days to several weeks until the pain disappears completely, depending on the severity of the disease. In the case of tension or nerve problems, the pain can also disappear within a few days.

Overall, all diseases have a good prognosis. In older, weakened patients, however, pneumonia or flu can also be fatal.
