Duration | Laser therapy

Duration

The duration depends on the type of treatment and the underlying disease. The removal of individual moles or scars usually takes a few minutes. If hair is to be removed over a larger area during laser treatment, this may take longer.

However, often it is not done with a single treatment, but requires several sessions. The whole treatment can therefore take 3 to 6 months or longer. With hair removal, for example, it can also take several years.

Initially, sessions are scheduled every 4 weeks, later every half year. The duration of the treatment also includes the follow-up treatment. This is very important for a good outcome of the procedure. Up to six weeks after the therapy, the use of a solarium or prolonged sunbathing should be avoided, as UV rays can damage the stressed skin. It is therefore recommended to have a laser treatment in winter.

Costs

The cost of treatment also depends on the type of treatment and the underlying disease. A laser therapy session for joint diseases costs between 30€ and 100€. For hair removal, a session costs 500-700€.

Often the treatment is offered as a private service and must be paid for by the patient. However, depending on the disease, the costs can also be covered by health insurance. It is therefore recommended to contact the health insurance company beforehand.Whether the costs are covered by the health insurance company depends on the health insurance company and the illness.

In most cases, the statutory health insurance does not cover laser therapy applications. However, a private health insurance will cover it in some cases, depending on the tariff paid. You should therefore check with your health insurance company in advance to find out whether they will cover the costs. Especially in the case of arthrotic or chronic diseases, the treatment is often paid by the health insurance company.

What are the alternatives?

There are many alternative treatments in medicine depending on the disease. For the treatment of varicose veins or spider veins, sclerotherapy or surgical treatment can be used. Moles can also be removed surgically.

In case of nail fungus, the use of antimycotics should be tried first. In the case of osteoarthritis, laser therapy should only be an additional treatment, as osteoarthritis is most likely to be cured by surgery. For long-term hair removal, there are unfortunately still few alternatives.
