Elbow rash in the child
Children are often affected by skin rashes. There are a variety of diseases that lead to skin symptoms in children. Also the region of the elbows is not a rare localization for a skin rash.
The most important causes should be named in this section, but no claim is made to completeness. Among the classic childhood diseases are scarlet fever, measles, rubella and ringworm. What they have in common is that they typically cause a skin rash that affects the whole body.
Within the scope of these diseases, the elbows and the outer sides of the elbows are also often affected. Accompanying symptoms such as fever and fatigue are not uncommon. In the context of an infection with the EBV virus (kissing disease, infectious mononucleosis, whistling glandular fever), a large-spotted, red skin rash can appear, which occurs mainly on the trunk and on the arms and legs.
Typically, high fever and tonsillitis occur. Young people are particularly affected. Atopic dermatitis is the most common skin disease of childhood.
The typical skin rash in the crook of the elbow occurs particularly in infancy and adolescence, but also shows other localizations. The skin is typically dry and reddened. Severe itching is perceived by those affected as particularly unpleasant.
Parasitic diseases are also not uncommon in children. Due to the close contact of children in kindergarten or school, a high risk of infection can be assumed, especially in the case of an infestation with itch mites. This is shown by red, knotty, very itchy skin changes on the crook of the arm and the skin areas between the fingers. This skin disease is manifested by very itchy, scaly skin rashes, which occur mainly on the outside of the elbows. The disease occurs in 10% of children, but is much more common in adults.
Baby rash
Babies and newborns also occasionally suffer from rashes on the elbow.The most common cause of a rash on the elbow in babies is probably atopic dermatitis, which develops between the 3rd and 6th month of life. In contrast to older children, the typical red, itchy skin rash in babies does not appear on the flexion side of the elbow but on the outside. The face is often also affected. Other causes of a rash on the elbow in babies are also parasitic infestations with itch mites or intolerance reactions and allergies.
