Emodella

Products

Distribution of the drug Emodella liquid (Gaba International AG, Therwil) was discontinued in many countries in the late 1990s. This was because of the high dose of the dry extract of sloth bark. As an alternative, Elixir frangulae compositum Streuli is available, which contains the same active extract. However, the dose is about 5 times lower. In pharmacies, Emodella can be prepared as a home-made preparation.

Structure and properties

According to our information, Emodella contained 72 mg/ml of dry bark extract (Frangulae extractum siccum 72 mg/ml). This is a high dose of the extract. The technical term is Adjusted dry rotten bark extract (Frangulae corticis extractum siccum normatum, content: 15.0 to 30.0% glucofrangulins).

Preparation Emodella substitute

We have the following manufacturing specification for an Emodella substitute. However, this uses the liquid extract and not the dry extract. Other prescriptions exist.
