Hemeran was approved in many countries since 1962 as a cream and later as a gel and emulgel (Geigy, Novartis, GSK). It was discontinued in 2018.
Ingredients
Hemeran contained the heparinoid “Heparinoidum Geigy” (polygalacturonic acid).
Effects
Heparinoidum Geigy has anticoagulant and anti-inflammatory properties.
Indications
- Complaints associated with varicose veins such as pain, heaviness, swollen legs (stasis edema).
- Blunt sports and accident injuries such as bruises, contusions, strains, swelling, pain of muscles and tendons.
- Loosening hard scars, scar care.
- Superficial phlebitis, for post-treatment of sclerotherapy and supportive for venous thrombosis.
Dosage
According to the professional information. The drug was applied several times a day.
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity
- Known heparin-induced/associated thrombocytopenia (HIT).

Adverse effects
Rare possible adverse effects include hypersensitivity reaction, itching, redness, hives, and paresthesias.
