Home remedy for conjunctivitis

Synonyms in a broader sense

Conjunctivitis, conjunctivitis English: conjunctivitis, pinkeye

General information

The most helpful immediate measure for conjunctivitis is strict hygiene to minimize the spread and further infection. Important: If the inflammation of the eyes has not completely healed after 3-4 days with the help of home remedies, you must consult a doctor so that your vision is not endangered. Even if there is a chemical burn, severe discomfort or foreign bodies in the eye, self-help is strongly discouraged.

Turmeric root

One of the most effective, but still quite unknown remedies for conjunctivitis is a warm eye bath made of turmeric. This requires 250 ml of boiling water and 1 teaspoon of ground turmeric. If you brew the turmeric with the water and leave it covered for 15 minutes, after straining the liquid through a coffee filter you will get an effective help against the eye inflammation. The eye is rinsed three times a day with the “turmeric tea”. It should be noted that turmeric can leave stains on clothing if anything comes into contact with it.

Camomile envelopes

Chamomile soothes, inhibits inflammation and disinfects the eye. In conjunctivitis, chamomile is used as an eye compress. To do this, 250ml of boiled milk is poured over a heaped tablespoon of chamomile (tea), left to steep briefly, strained and then warm compresses are made with a cotton or linen cloth. These should be used several times a day.

Quartz coatings

Quark toppings also soothe conjunctivitis. To do this, a cotton cloth is dipped in cold water and wrung out. 100 g of cooled low-fat curd cheese is spread on the sick, closed eye and the moist cotton cloth is placed over it. After about half an hour the curd is dry, so that the pad can be removed and the eye washed with lukewarm water.

Eyebright pads

The medicinal herb got its name because of its effective help against conjunctivitis. The eyebright tea is used to rinse the eyes or is applied as an envelope with the help of a cotton cloth. For this purpose, 1 teaspoon of eyebright is brewed with 250 ml water and left to infuse for 2 minutes. For use in conjunctivitis, the tea should always be brewed again. An additional drinking of the tea increases the healing effect even more.

Onion washings

Onions also have an anti-inflammatory effect. For application on the eye, 2 small onions are skinned and chopped. Then cook the chopped onions in 250 ml of milk to which a little honey is added until the onions are soft and mushy. With the cooled liquid, the inflamed eye is washed out several times a day from the outer to the inner corner of the eye.
