A possible complication after a root canal treatment is the formation of pus, which is accompanied by a very painful feeling of pressure. Pus can form for many different reasons. On the one hand, it is possible that the tooth has become inflamed again after the treatment due to slightly remaining bacteria.
One can imagine the root canal system like a kind of tree, where the many branches and twigs represent the ramifications of the root canal. Depending on the tooth and anatomical conditions, bacteria may remain in the root canal system. In this case, pus formation can lead to severe pressure pain.
On the other hand, pus can form due to an inflammation caused by a lack of oral hygiene after the treatment or by early smoking. In general, one should consult a dentist as soon as possible in case of pus formation. In the mid-50s, many diseases were attributed to focal foci. One suspected among other things also the nerve dead teeth as potential herd, which were considered for example also for rheumatism as cause. Therefore, every tooth whose pulp had died was extracted. The reason for this is that these teeth can still provide valuable services through careful root canal treatment.
Summary
Root canal treatment is used for acutely inflamed pulp. It can be carried out in one session if the procedure is uncomplicated. In the case of gangrene, the treatment is longer and more complex.
Root canal treatment for milk teeth depends on the initial position, but it differs significantly from that for adults. Root apex resection removes the pus at the root tip and the tip itself.
