How long does a PZR last?

The duration of professional dental cleaning (PZR) depends on the number of teeth to be treated and the individual oral situation of the patient (type and amount of plaque, inflamed gum pockets, etc.). The selection of the required instruments depends on this. As a rule, treatment for adults takes between 45 and 70 minutes.

Is teeth cleaning painful?

Professional tooth cleaning is not painful for healthy teeth. Patients who suffer from exposed tooth necks or inflammatory gum pockets often find the treatment unpleasant. Thorough cleaning can also cause light to moderate bleeding. In order to make professional tooth cleaning more pleasant for the patient, the dentist has special gels at his disposal which numb the surface (e.g. Oraqix Periodontal Gel). These are applied to the affected areas before treatment begins and ensure that the teeth and gum pockets are cleaned with little pain.

How often should one have a PZR performed?

Normally, one or two professional dental cleanings per year are completely sufficient. The frequency depends mainly on the patient’s risk of caries and periodontitis (inflammation of the periodontium). Taking medication, general diseases such as diabetes (diabetes) or stress can negatively influence oral health and thus increase the risk of tooth decay.

For these patients, repeated treatment is necessary and sensible. The dentist decides how often a professional tooth cleaning should be carried out based on the individual oral situation of the patient.
