Instruction according to Epley

Maneuvers for the left, posterior arcade: The liberation maneuvers according to Epley and Semont are based on the canalolithiasis model, in contrast to the maneuver according to Brandt Daroff. The crystals have detached and landed in the posterior arcade. The exercise is performed in a sitting position on a bed or examination couch.

The legs are stretched out and you look forward. Rotate your head 45 degrees to the left side. Lie down quickly on your back.

The head should be slightly tilted backwards. Before doing so, lie down under your shoulders. In this position wait half a minute to a full minute and then move your head 90 degrees to the right.

The head remains tilted backwards. Again hold this position for half a minute to a full minute and then turn to the right side. In the side position, continue to hold the head at 90 degrees and wait another half to one minute.

Then move from the side position to the seat. Move your legs out of bed. Again, wait in each position until the dizziness disappears.

Maneuver for the right, posterior arcade: Perform the exercise with the other side. Again, sit on the bed with your legs stretched out. Move your head 45 degrees to the right side.Again, you quickly move into the supine position and the head is again tilted back a little.

Nevertheless it holds 45 degrees to the right. Hold this position for half a minute to a full minute. Your head is now led 90 degrees to the left and you still keep your head tilted slightly backwards.

Again, hold this position for half a minute to a full minute. Then turn your head 90 degrees to the left. Remain in the lateral position for another half to one minute.

Then get into your seat and move your legs out of bed. Duration: The maneuver is performed until the vertigo is gone. You can perform the Epley exercise 3 times a day, for 3 series at a time.
