Interactions
Durogesic® sometimes interacts with some medications in a very dangerous way, which should be strictly observed during use:
- Other opioids with a weaker effect, may weaken the effect of fentanyl
- MAO-inhibitors, when combined, can increase the circulatory depression of the fentanyl and cause severe CNS side effects
- Other drugs: preparations which reduce the rate of fentanyl degradation by inhibiting the cytochrome P-450 of the liver (e.g. azoles) -> longer duration of action of fentanyl.
Contraindications
Durogesic® may worsen the following diseases and conditions and should not be prescribed in these cases:
- Diseases of the lung
- Diseases of the intestine
- Diseases of the prostate gland
- Diseases of the cardiovascular system
- Myxoedema
- Arrythmias and
- Pregnancy
Fentanyl is subject to the German narcotics law (BtMG) and therefore all Fentanyl drugs have to be prescribed by a doctor via a so-called narcotics prescription.
