Is toothpaste with activated carbon harmful?

In general, daily use of a toothpaste with activated carbon is harmful, as the teeth rub off and the hard tooth substance is gradually lost. Since the enamel is not reproducible, the affected person will lose the protective sheathing of the teeth, which can make them sensitive and cause the bite to subside. In addition, there are no scientific studies and plaque that could justify the use of activated carbon in toothpaste. Therefore, any use is at your own risk.

Can toothpaste with activated carbon be carcinogenic?

Industrial soot, which is used in most activated carbon toothpastes, is suspected of causing cancer. To what extent the amounts of the so-called “carbon black” within the toothpaste have an effect is questionable, however. In this case, too, there are no scientific findings.

Furthermore, the industrial process of activated carbon production can produce polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon compounds which are carcinogenic. It is unclear whether these were purified from the activated carbon before being introduced into the toothpaste.
