Kidney pain with a cold – What to do?
If kidney pain occurs in connection with a cold, there should be no panic at first. The affected person should observe the pain. If they persist over a longer period of time or become stronger, the treating family doctor should be consulted.
It is also advisable to see a doctor if you have severe unilateral kidney pain. Home remedies (see below) can be used to relieve the pain. A proven household remedy for a cold with kidney pain is the application of heat.
For example, in the form of a hot-water bottle or a cherry stone cushion. Carefully applied to the affected area, heat can work wonders. It is important that hot-water bottle cherry stone pillows are not too hot but pleasantly warm.
In rare cases, the use of cold is good for some people. For example in the form of a cool pack wrapped in a towel. Other measures that help are the usual remedies for colds: physical protection, warm tea and plenty of sleep.
Duration of kidney pain with a cold
How long kidney pain in a cold lasts depends very much on where the pain comes from. They can last for a few seconds or even last for days. If the pain occurs as a result of kidney stones (renal colic), it usually floods in and out in waves.
