Laryngitis (Larynx Inflammation): Medical History

Medical history (history of illness) is an important component in the diagnosis of laryngitis (inflammation of the larynx).

Family history

  • What is the general health of your relatives?

Social history

  • What is your profession?
  • Are they exposed to harmful agents in your profession?
  • Do you put excessive strain on your voice?
  • Is there any evidence of psychosocial stress or strain due to your family situation?

Current medical history/systemic history (somatic and psychological complaints).

  • Are you hoarse? If so, for how long?
  • Do you have any other symptoms of a cold such as cough, aches or fever?
  • Have you noticed any change in your voice?
  • Do you have a globus sensation (lumpy feeling)?

Vegetative anamnesis including nutritional anamnesis.

  • Do you like to drink coffee, black or green tea? If so, how many cups per day?
  • Do you smoke? If yes, how many cigarettes, cigars or pipes per day?
  • Do you drink alcohol? If yes, what drink(s) and how many glasses per day?
  • Do you use drugs? If yes, what drugs and how often per day or per week?

Self history incl. medication history.
