Medical application
Castor oil can also be used for skin care and treatment, stimulating the production of collagen in the tissues. The skin should become firmer and also softer as a result. The application of castor oil is said to smooth out small wrinkles around the eyes or mouth area.
The castor oil is said to have a certain anti-wrinkle effect. When treating the skin with castor oil, it is equally important to leave the oil on overnight. The treatment recommendations for the skin are thus identical to the recommendations for eyelashes and hair.
The first small successes are only visible after a few weeks of application. However, deep wrinkles do not disappear with the application of castor oil. The treatment of scars on the skin is also an area of application for castor oil.
Especially thick and firm scars should become significantly softer and flatter through regular treatment with castor oil. Reddening or irritation of the skin can also be reduced by using castor oil. Castor oil also seems to be an option for the treatment of neurodermatitis.
The castor oil is also said to have an anti-inflammatory effect. It can therefore also be used to protect the skin. Small injuries should heal faster when using the oil.
Due to its anti-inflammatory effect, it can also be used in the course of acne therapy. For this purpose it is mixed with another body oil and applied to the previously cleansed skin. After ten to 20 minutes it should be removed with warm water.
The use of castor oil for laxative purposes has a long tradition. People from earlier centuries used it as a natural laxative. Even if it is a natural laxative, castor oil should still be taken with caution.
One or two tablespoons of castor oil can be taken in the case of constipation. Its laxative effect will show after a few hours. Higher dosages should not be used.
Also with children one should be rather careful with the intake of castor oil for laxative effect. For its laxative effect, ricinoleic acid is of particular importance. The oil increases the activity of the intestine and thus promotes the advancement of the stool mass in the direction of the anus.
At the same time, castor oil extracts large quantities of water from the body, which significantly softens the bowel movement, and at the same time removes numerous electrolytes from the body. If the castor oil is used for evacuation, the patient should simultaneously take in a lot of fluid to counteract the loss of fluid. Castor oil should never be used for the long-term treatment of constipation. Neither should castor oil be used for constipation due to intestinal obstruction or inflammation in the intestinal area. Therefore, always consult a doctor if you suffer from long-term constipation.
