Medication before surgery
Some medications that a patient takes on a regular basis must be discontinued before a planned surgery and may need to be replaced with other medications. Some can be taken until shortly before surgery, while others must be discontinued weeks beforehand. These include anticoagulants and certain medications for diabetics.
If you take medications regularly, discuss this with your attending physician and your surgeon. Do not stop taking your medications on your own!
