Meniscus pain after jogging
Many runners, especially hobby runners or beginners, report more or less frequently about pain after jogging. The knee is often affected. After jogging, the knee joint may well be overloaded, especially if it is in a rather untrained state.
Usually the pain goes away one or two days after jogging, but in some cases the meniscus may also be behind it. You can tell whether the meniscus is responsible for the pain by where the pain occurs. On the side of the knee is the characteristic place where the meniscus causes pain.
However, it is rather rare that a meniscus is acutely damaged while jogging, because a violent force is necessary for this. This can happen, for example, when the cable is bent. If the meniscus is responsible for pain after jogging, it is probably a degenerative reduction of cartilage where the meniscus is heavily loaded, which mainly affects older people. A meniscus can also cause discomfort after jogging, even after previous surgery, so that the load should be reduced here.
Meniscus pain after surgery
If damage to the meniscus has been treated surgically, pain may continue to occur after surgery. As after every operation, the surgical wound must first heal and the meniscus, if it has not been removed, must grow together again and regenerate. This can cause pain.
In the first few weeks after the operation, care should be taken not to put unnecessary strain on the meniscus. But also in the long term it is possible that you are not completely without pain after surgery. Especially in sports that are demanding for the meniscus, such as soccer or skiing, pain can reappear at the knee where the operation took place after long periods of stress.
However, these usually disappear again after the sport. This does not have to be a sign of a new injury at the meniscus, but is mostly due to the fact that a meniscus after surgery is often not as resilient as a healthy, not operated meniscus. For this reason, the intensity of pain should be reduced during sports activities. Nevertheless, there are also many people who complain of no more pain after surgery.
