Menstrual cramps

In addition to the menstrual problems listed here, you will find detailed information on our website: Menstrual disordersThis is a complex of symptoms that occurs in the second half of the cycle, i.e. in the 2 weeks before your period. The cause is considered to be a hormone imbalance, among other things, which can lead to the following complaints: Therapeutically, hormone preparations in the form of the “pill” and dehydrating agents are used. Among other things, nausea can also occur in the context of premenstrual syndrome.

  • Headaches to migraine attacks (See: Migraine), mental instability (depression, sluggishness, nervousness, irascibility)
  • Chest pain and water retention
  • Impure skin up to acne
  • Digestive problems (constipation, flatulence, bloating)
  • Dizziness, hot flushes and sweating
  • Abdominal and back pain

This is the occurrence of severe pain just before your period and on the first two days. The complaints are particularly evident in the form of abdominal cramps, dizziness and nausea. Possible causes are malformations of the sexual organs as well as hormonal and psychological factors. Diseases of the reproductive organs such as inflammations, myomas or endometriosis can also cause severe symptoms. Therapeutically, painkillers, antispasmodic drugs or hormone treatment (e.g. in the form of the pill) can be considered. Personal measures, such as using a hot-water bottle or doing certain exercises, can also help.

Color of menstruation

The menstrual period can be very individual and is therefore not the same for every woman. The hormone level of the woman has a major influence on its course, which can be influenced by factors such as diet, physical exertion, stress, competitive sports and medication taken. The color of the menstrual period can also vary for various reasons.

The color of the menstrual period can also allow conclusions to be drawn about the underlying cause, such as bleeding fibroids. Normally, the color of the menstrual period is a medium red tone. However, this can vary within the menstrual period and does not always have to show exactly the same shade of color.

A rather dark red coloration is also possible and can indicate a high estrogen level. In most cases, the bleeding is then also rather thick. The high estrogen level causes the lining of the uterus to grow.

When this is shed during menstruation, it causes dark, heavy bleeding. Another reason for such dark menstrual periods can be bleeding fibroids, which are very common in young women. Brighter bleedings are seen, for example, in competitive athletes, who tend to have lower estrogen levels.

Also in periods of hunger or in patients with anorexia or severe underweight, the menstrual period tends to show a very pale, pale color such as a light pink or a very light red. A light brown to dark brown color is also quite normal. Many women notice a rather brown coloration especially at the end of their period.

Since towards the end of the menstrual period there is hardly any uterine lining and often only coagulated blood is rejected, the color appears rather brown to dark brown. Spotting and bleeding between periods are also often dark brown, but strictly speaking these are not part of the menstrual cycle.
