The primary focus of any therapy is to treat the underlying condition in question–for example, renal insufficiency (kidney weakness).
General measures
- Alcohol restriction (abstaining from alcohol), as alcohol has an acid-forming effect.
- Limited caffeine consumption (max. 240 mg of caffeine per day; this corresponds to 2 to 3 cups of coffee or 4 to 6 cups of green / black tea), because coffee and black tea have an acid-forming effect
- Aim for normal weight!Determination of BMI (body mass index, body mass index) or body composition by means of electrical impedance analysis and, if necessary, participation in a medically supervised weight loss program or program for the underweight.
- Review of permanent medication due topossible effect on the existing disease.
Conventional non-surgical therapy methods
- Dialysis (blood washing) – for therapy of concomitant renal failure (in lactic acidosis: lactate removal via a filter).
Regular control examinations
- Regular medical checkups
