If lithium and alcohol are tolerated, the patient must also be made aware of a significant impairment of his or her ability to react and the associated impairment of his or her fitness to drive. Both lithium and alcohol can reduce the ability to react. If both are taken at the same time, the ability to react is reduced even more than if alcohol or lithium are used alone.
