- Do you notice purulent secretions in your mouth? [chronic MAV]
- Is your nasal breathing obstructed?
- Are you in pain?

- Knock-sensitive upper posterior teeth? [Sinusitis maxillaris (maxillary sinusitis)]
- Headache?
- Do you have a feeling of pressure in the area of the cheeks?
- Do you have an increase in pain/pressure when bending forward? [Pressure increase in the KH area in sinusitis maxillaris.]
- Do you have a fever?
Self history including medication history.
- Pre-existing conditions
- Allergies [DD chronic sinusitis maxillaris in MAV]
- Immune status
- Nasopharyngeal problems (adenoids/ adenoid hyperplasia or adenoids) [DD chronic sinusitis maxillaris in MAV].
- Sinusitis
- Upper posterior surgeries [history of plastic coverage of an MAV?]
- Previous complaints [chronic MAV?]
- Accidents [facial injuries?]
- Endocarditis risk (ID)
- Radiotherapy
- Medication history (immunosuppression?)
