In a study of rat cardiac muscle cells, naringenin exerted a cytoprotective effect against exposure to the chemotherapeutic drug daunorubicin, i.e., the survival of cardiac muscle cells was significantly increased.Prevention of the development of liver cirrhosisIn an animal study of rats, naringenin exerted a protective effect on the development of so-called liver fibrosis – characteristic of liver cirrhosis. Neuroprotective effectIn a Parkinson’s model experiment in rats, prior naringenin infusion was able to protect the cells of the substantia nigra from the neurotoxin 6-OHDA (6-hydroxydopamine).
