The following symptoms and complaints may indicate otosclerosis:
Leading symptoms
- Gradual onset of conductive hearing loss in the low frequencies; hearing is better in noisy environments than at rest; onset usually unilateral
- Tinnitus (ringing in the ears)
- If necessary, sensorineural hearing loss
- If applicable, vertigo (dizziness)
Note: The disease can affect one or both ears at the same time.
After pregnancy, there is often a worsening of symptoms.
